THE KALININGRAD REGION DAYS IN LITHUANIA

The Kaliningrad Region days were held in Lithuania, in October 4-6, 2009. Within this context an, official visit was paid by the Governor of the Kaliningrad region G.V. Boos, members of the Kaliningrad Region Government, by the deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (FA RF) and the senators of the Council of Federal (FA RF), and also representatives of the various Kaliningrad businesses. An official event program included a musical concert by the Kaliningrad region brass-band, and the Humour Tournament (KVN) for the Kaliningrad region Governor’s cup.

The youth delegation consisted of the youth organizations of the Kaliningrad region - Chairman of Youth Government A. Levakov, Minister of Agriculture and Fishery L. Sachok, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of Youth I. Sorokin, Chairman of the "Healthy Generation" Movement E. Filippova and deputy chairman of the Russian Union of Youth (RUY) regional branch S. Manukyan.

The meeting took place on October 5 in the Russian Culture Centre in Vilnius, with participation from Deputy Minister of Education of the Kaliningrad region G. Grechenko and head of the youth politics T. Vasileva. The representatives from the host country were members of the “Round Table of the Republic of Lithuania (youth body) and Vilnius City Council of Youth, also representative of the Union of Russian Schools Students. A successful presentation of the youth area of the Kaliningrad region was held during the course of the meeting. A great interest among Lithuanian colleagues was risen by the represented organizations the Youth Government, the Parliamentary Assembly of Youth, the "Healthy Generation" Movement, the Russian Union of Youth (RUY), the Kaliningrad region students’ youth labour headquarters.

The Kaliningrad delegation got familiar with the system of the Lithuanian youth self-governed body, politic directions and implementations, and youth representatives in government.

The outcome of the event was the discussion of possible joint programs, cooperation development, and experiences exchange. One of the nearest perspectives may be a three-day visit of the Lithuanian delegation of young people to Kaliningrad in November 2009.

Overall, the Kaliningrad region and the Lithuanian republic gives a broad range of perspectives for future cooperation. With this visit a good beginning had been made in the area of youth politics for the successful development of joint projects.
